So I usually complain up the wazoo about college. But this week my college has given me several reasons to smile
Yesterday, I was walking by Gammage Auditorium, and there’s a huge grassy lawn behind it. I was walking and talking with a friend of mine, when all of a sudden he says “is that dude meditating?” So I look over, and sure enough, there’s a guy sitting in the middle of the lawn with his legs crossed, hands on knees, and yep… meditating. I’ve never seen a person meditate before, let alone on a public lawn at a very unforgiving college, but hey… he wasn’t hurting anyone, now was he?
The, I found out today that my Physics teacher was interviewed by MSNBC for his research that he’s doing on… something. I don’t know, I’m guessing it’s something scientific. All I remember is it’s something about viruses and shaking them to death. You can read it here: MSNBC. It’s like knowing a celebrity. Ok, so not really
Then, I was overjoyed by the news today that my math class was cancelled! In the last two weeks, I’ve gone to like 2 math classes, lol! Because she cancelled another two classes due to her getting married (teachers should get married more often, seriously), and then I skipped a day because I was sick. Yes, kiddies, just wait until you’re in college and show up to find out that the class was cancelled for the day. There’s
other joy quite like it!
Now, I’m a junior there, so you’d think I’d know all the ins and outs of the college by now. Apparently I was wrong. You see, my home printer is broken, so whenever I have a typed assignment to turn in, I usually have to email it to myself and print it at school. But my school charges you to print. I usually just print in the library. But the other day, I forgot to bring my SunCard with me (my student ID that also doubles as like a campus debit card), so I was just going to email the assignment to my teacher when something told me to go to the Computing Commons. Usually, I don’t like going to the Computing Commons because it’s too big and you have to wait in a long line for a computer. But I went anyway. That’s when I was exposed to the wonderfulness that is the Computing Commons. First of all, they not only have PC’s, but beautiful, shiny, FAST Mac’s. So naturally, I sat down at one of the Mac computers. I logged on, opened up my email, and thought “hmmm… how am I going to print this?” The reason why you usually need your SunCard is because at the printing station, you have to swipe your SunCard (like you would a credit card), and the computer deducts the amount from your account and prints (of course, you need to put money on your card, first). But at the computing commons, when you press print on the computer, it asks you for your student ID and password, and automatically deducts the amount from your account…
swiping of card required!!! I was like “God loves me. Seriously.” So I was able to print and go on my merry way!
So yes, that is why college rocks, my friends!
Oy, so I’m about to leave for work, and I’m so nervous. First of all, I was apparently supposed to work last night, but forgot, so I was considered a “no call/no show.” Which is bad, and I’m sure I’m going to get lectured on it. Then, I’m putting in my two weeks notice today. They’re seriously going to decapitate me, especially since I’m doing this right before the holidays. Wish me luck
